AIA Saturday Information Update

We are expecting over 1100 Arizona officials in attendance on AIA Saturday, July 25th, at the Marriott Starr Pass Resort in Tucson. This is a monumental event, and the AIA is deeply appreciative that you will be in attendance to grow in your knowledge and skills as an official.

Moving 1100 officials through the day does present some logistical challenges. Here is some vital information for you that should make the day move smoother:

• Getting to the Starr Pass from the North (traveling south on I-10) can be a little tricky. The off ramps from I-10 are closed through Tucson. Exit on Speedway, and take the frontage road to 22nd Street/Starr Pass Blvd. Turn West. The resort is about five miles.


• Parking is also tricky at the resort. Marriot staff members will be out on the road directing traffic. Please arrive with enough time to park and then walk to the resort conference area.


• We will be starting ON TIME. Please plan on arriving early to give yourself plenty of time to park and register.
  
  
  • Our largest group to register is Football, with about 600 officials. That registration starts at 7:15 in the foyer area of the Arizona Ballroom. The earlier you can arrive – the better.
  
  
  • Volleyball opens registration at Cholla High School at 7:00 AM. Cholla HS is on the road going up to the resort – about two miles from I-10.
  
  
  • Wrestling registers at Maxwell Middle School. A map to that location is available by going to our web site for this event, clicking the Wrestling schedule, and then the map link for the school.
  
  
  • Basketball opens registration at 7:15 AM at the west end of the Arizona Ballroom foyer. Softball registers at the same area – between 8:00 and 8:25 AM
  
  
  • Soccer and Baseball register between 8:30 and 8:55 AM in the upper level of conference center in front of the San Ignacio/San Pedro Rooms.
  
  
• Vendors will be available in the Arizona Ballroom Foyer. Come early, register, visit vendors and enjoy the environment.


• Lunch is “Sack and Sit”. Be patient as we distribute lunches and begin the program. Thank you for assisting with cleanup afterwards.


• Lodging: For those that might be traveling down on Friday, two of the hotels we have special rates with have lowered them even more: The Hyatt Place airport has reduced their rate to $59 and the LaQuinta Starpass is now at $55. THIS IS ON A SPACE AVAILABLE BASIS.


• Our web site – www.azfoa.org/NASO - has changed to an informational page. Registration is closed for all sports via this site. Please check periodically in case there have been changes and updates to the program and travel information. Sports seminar schedules are current on the site.
